In order to express the "traditional beauty and the spiritual
welfare" we have been showing and wishing to show the "Dream"
towards our readers with the beautiful space since the establishment
of KATEI-GAHO in 1958. However the "Dream" which we present
is not the one unable to make it come true. Through the "Dream"
we suggest concrete ideas to enrich the readers' lives and to
show the possibility to develop their lives in better way. We
at the same time learn from the lives of our readers and to
pose the questions concerning various social issues through
many kinds of special articles.

| Lately Japanese
traditional beauty and Industrial arts has been very much paid attention
from all over the world. We believe that the mission of "KATEI-GAHO"
is to show the Japanese tradition and its beauty. Special edition
focus on New Year in January issues and the one of Girls' Festival
in March, so called "Hinamatsuri", issues every year have been quite
favorable among the great number of readers. The 500th memorial edition
specially covered "Beauty of Japan" (Oct. 1999), the Japanese way
of lives enjoying each seasons and excellent hand craft items brought
up in the Imperial Court. We would like to continue to cover the various
aspects of Japan using vivid photos based on our original sophisticated
taste in order to stimulate the readers interests, like "Beautiful
Sabi" , point of view considering Japanese Tea ceremony as an ethics
covered, in Sep. 2001 edition. |

| The theme especially
favorable among the readers is "YADO" ( Japanese style of hotel sometime
equipped with hot spring.) We covered "50 selection of luxurious cozy
Yado with delicious meal" in Aug. edition of 1982, which we actually
chose Yados considered to be the ideal all over Japan where people
wishes to visit either with their partners or friends. Owing to the
careful preparation by our editorial team, this edition was a big
success. As a matter of fact our editorial staffs visited and checked
the candidate Yados in details from the view point of our readers
before editing the features. We at the same time made a big success
with the Oct. 1993 edition "Luxurious stay at the 5 stars Ryotei-Ryokan"
which is the series of the edition enjoying colored leaves in autumn.
Our editing team is always keen on finding luxurious comfortable Yado
with delicious meals being conscious of the latest trend. |

| 8The theme covered
in the Nov. edition of 1987 "Enjoying Hiruzen ( Traditional Japanese
style of lunch served on the individual tray.), Having Mini-Kaiseki
lunch with female friends" revealed the female life style change in
first stage. In fact this edition only focused on the female groups
having lunch in the comfortable restaurants described with the new
word "OHIRUZEN" we were able to show the luxurious atmosphere and
was a great success indeed. The success of this edition lead " Selection
of 100 French and Italian Hiruzen" in Jun 1992 edition and "Japanese
style of Hiruzen in Luxurious Hotels" in Sep. 1993 edition. |

| As we wished
KATEI-GAHO readers to use their garden of their houses more efficiently
to enrich their lives, KATEI-GAHO has suggested the ideas to use the
gardens in some edition such as "Garden can be the luxurious living
room" in Sep. 1993 and "Having joyful living room in the garden" in
Sep. 1994. Through the "GARDENING" we wish to tell the true meaning
of "Enjoying Life". |

| In 70's when
the word "Brand" was not familiar in Japan, Collection in Paris and
Milano of luxurious brands was not at all familiar for the daily lives
of Japanese people. Under such circumstances KATEI-GAHO is the first
magazine to introduce the collection in Paris in Japan with its Sep.
1976 edition "The wardrobe for you from Paris" and "Milano Collection
suites you well". Thus KATEI-GAHO break the ice of so called Brand
Boom in Japan. |

| Among the various
issues covered in KATEI-GAHO we have always been very much like to
focus on nature from cultural and scientific points of view. Regarding
the issue of nature KATEI-GAHO especially emphasized on the theme
of "FOREST" which is indeed one of the most popular theme among the
readers. Regarding July 1984 edition of "Forest Sanctuary" we have
done a research of virgin forest all over Japan in the corporation
of Environment Agency and this research followed for several issues
such as Jul. 1984 edition "If the Forest of beech trees is alive",
Aug. 1997 edition "Creating and Playing in Forest" We also introduced
the many forest and wood culture all over Japan and the forest through
the essays "Man in forest" "Shape and work in forest" written by Mr.
Inamoto Tadashi, industry artist. As forest is the fundamental resources
of our human lives and culture, it will continue to be our theme in
the future. |

Aug. 2000 issue - 1994 48th Mainichi Bunka Shorei Prize "Shape and
Work in Woods" written by Mr. Inamoto Tadashi, industrial artist.
- Since 1975 Katei Gaho received 48 gold prizes and 50 silver prizes
of Japan Advertisement Prize for magazines. - Since 1964 following
prizes of Advertisement contest to see the profitability towards the
consumers are received. - 6 Prizes of Ministry of International Trade
and Industry - 4 Prizes of Chairman of JAA - 37 Special Gold Prize

of Craft "KATEI-GAHO GRAND PRIZE" |

| Festival of
Craft held by Sekai Bunka Publishing Inc. is the largest and prestigious
craft festival in Japan. We raise the crafts based on the theme we
propose from all over Japan. Among the raised craft those which we
consider exclusively excellent are to be given prizes from us and
related sponsor companies and the exhibition is held for them. The
one of 2001 was the 6th Festival of Craft and the exhibition was held
for 2 weeks in August. Approximately 50 thousands people visited the
exhibition and exhibited crafts which were nice in unique ideas to
enrich the daily had to be impressive and gave dreams to the visitors.
